Recorded Auditions
Please have a music teacher, choir director, or vocal coach/accompanist facilitate the audition. The recording should include the following:
- Have the boy introduce himself: giving his name, current grade in school, hometown and state.
- Warm-up: vocalize the boy, having him demonstrate his high, middle, and low ranges.
- Melody/rhythm tests: play 3 melodies on the piano, 5-8 notes each, with varying rhythms, and have the boy repeat each one. There should be at least one melody in major and one in minor. The boy may sing on any neutral syllable, and the melodies may be repeated if necessary.
- Harmonic test: play 2 notes together and have the boy sing the higher of the two on a neutral syllable. Repeat the interval and have the boy sing the lower pitch. This should be done with 2 different intervals (such as P5 and M3).
