About the Alumni Chorus

The American Boychoir Alumni Chorus was created in response to alumni who desired an opportunity to sing together at the same level of excellence as when they were young choristers. The first rehearsal of the Alumni Chorus was held in March, 2005, and has since become an integral part of the Boychoir community. During the 2006-2007 season alone, the Alumni Memorial Concert, featuring the ABS Concert and Resident Training Choirs, raised over $18,000 for scholarship funds. (See article below for more details.)

Now in its third full season, the Chorus includes over 45 alumni from six decades who travel from as far south as Virginia and as far north as Newport, VT to participate. Rehearsals are held at The American Boychoir School in Princeton on Sunday afternoons once a month, from September through June (with the exception of December.)

2nd Annual Alumni Memorial Concert

On Saturday March 3, 2007 a “standing room only” crowd enjoyed joyous performances by the ABS Alumni Chorus and their guest artists The American Boychoir and Resident Training Choir at the Second Alumni Memorial Concert. The concert raised over $18,000 for five different alumni scholarship funds and the general ABS scholarship fund, doubling the amount raised from last year’s concert.

Held at Miller Chapel on the campus of the Princeton Theological Seminary, the concert     honors  all Columbus Boychoir and American Boychoir alumni who are no longer with us.

A high point of the concert was the Alumni Chorus and the Concert Choir performing Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms accompanied by organ, harp, and percussion.

Congratulations to all! Once again, the audience responded with enthusiasm to the concert which included a variety of repertoire. May these concerts continue for years to come and go from “strength to strength!”

- James Litton, Music Director Emeritus and Director of the Alumni Chorus

In addition, the newly formed ABS Alumni Association recognized two extraordinary individuals in the ABS community through the Honorary Alumnus Award and the Distinguished Alumnus Award.

A three hour drive once a month is a
pittance pay for the chance to be part of
such a wonderful organization again.

-Benjamin Parks '88

It allows us to showcase our childhood
training, for ourselves and our audience,
and demonstrate that it stays with us
throughout our lives.
