THE GOOD LIFE AT ABS
WHERE WOULD I LIVE?
Welcome to Community Life at the American Boychoir School. Our job is to make ABS feel like a second home to all our families. We have a beautiful dorm for all boarding boys to live in, with houseparents residing on each floor. The dorm rooms accommodate 2-4 boys, with private bathrooms in each.
The dormitory has a common room for watching TV, hanging out with friends, playing piano, or playing games. The shady front porch is also a great place to relax or read. The health office is located within the dormitory near the Dean of Students apartment.Outside we have over 30 acres with lots of green space, perfect for riding bikes or playing on the large soccer field. The campus also includes a gymnasium, which is great for a game of basketball or indoor activities during the winter months.
WHAT WOULD I EAT?
Everyone who lives at ABS eats in the dining hall, conveniently located in the dormitory building. Both students and staff have the opportunity to enjoy healthy and delicious food provided by our head chef and staff. The kitchen staff is skilled in preparing food for dietary restrictions as well.
There is always fresh fruit available for snacks in a cooler in the dining room. Milk, juice, and water are also easy to find. The boarding boys keep snacks in a "Candy Closet” to enjoy (and share as they wish) during ‘movie time’ on weekends, under houseparent supervision.
WHAT WOULD I DO FOR FUN?
In the evenings after dinner, ABS students have quiet Study Hall and Tech Lab time followed by Club activities. If you are learning to play an instrument this is a great time to practice. Club activities vary and include Boy Scouts, a cappella, Art, Guitar Lessons, Gardening, ‘Speaker’s Corner’, Strategic Games, Creative Writing, and Running Club. If there is an interest you have, talk to the Dean of Students and maybe we can start a club!
On weekends there is free time, study time, sport activities, night games (a favorite at ABS!), and at least one planned off-campus activity. Some of the activities include going to the beach, ice skating, local library, movies and the mall, sporting events, trips to NYC, and exploring local places of interest.
